The Head of the University of Kerbelaa' Performs an Opening Ceremony for the New Building of the Department of Medical Laboratories and the Laboratories of the Department of Environmental Health in MAS
With the presence of the Dean of MAS, asst. Prof Jawdat Al-Jash’amy and the deans of the colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy, Prof. Bassim Al-Se’eedy Phd, the Head of the University of Kerbelaa’ did an opening ceremony for the new building of the department of Medical Laboratories and the laboratories that belong to the department of Environmental Health. The new building of the previously mentioned department has been witnessed some maintenance work recently. It includes classrooms with new equipment and teaching staff’s rooms. On the other hand, the laboratories of the department of Environmental Health has been witnessed some maintenance work similarly. They have been supplied with the modern benches from remarkable factories.
The Head of the University, overwhelmingly, praised the great effort done by all the staff of the MAS which aims at supporting the  education in this college, that developing the building structure of a college helps in upgrading the Students’ educational  scientific level too. The ceremony was on Wednesday 25th of Nov., 2021.

Following the instructions of the ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the MAS opens its door for the BSc. Evening Class registry of the academic year (2021-2022) and in both departments: Medical Laboratories and Environmental Health. The lowest range of the nominated students’ general average is to be 65% for both departments. The department of Medical Laboratories is planned to accept those who finished their biological branch of their preparatory study while the department of the Environmental health is planned to accept those who finished their biological or applicable type of the preparatory study. The annual cost of the study is (2000,000 ID) for the BSc. Degree in Medical Laboratories while it costs (1500,000 ID) for the BSc degree in Environmental Health. For registration and more information about the required papers to be submitted, it is advised to consult the Section of Registry in this college. The Submission of papers will be closed on 19th of Dec., 2021.

(The Bacteriological and the Immunological Study of Diabetic Patients, with and without Foot Ulcer in the Province of Province)
Attending in the Great Hall of Imam Al-Sadiq (PBUH), an MSc. thesis debate was held in the specialty of Medical Laboratories there. The thesis, performed by the researcher (Fatimah Hadi Kadhim), titled as (The Bacteriological and the Immunological Study of Diabetic Patients with and without Foot Ulcer in the Province of Province). The committee of debate was headed by Prof. Jawad K. Traad, PhD- Uni. of Babil-College of Medicine, and its members: Asst.Prof. Ahmed A. Rokan, PhD Uni. of Kerbelaa- College of Pharmacy’ and  Asst. Prof Hassan A. Hussain, PhD. Uni. of Kerbelaa’- College of MAS. The thesis was supervised by  Prof Suhad H. Mohammad, PhD -Uni. of Kerbelaa’- College of MAS.
The study aims at knowing the difference in the levels of interleukin 17(IL-17A) and other inflammatory indicators, such as TNF Alpha, CRP, ESR and the account of White Blood Cells (WBC), Neutrophils, Lymphocytes; side by side with some other Biochemical Parameters, such as: HbA1c; Urea and Creatinine among patients with second type of diabetes  (having a foot Ulcer or not). The study has, also, covered the isolating and diagnosing of the bacteria which cause the foot Ulcer and detecting its sensitivity against some Antibiotic Susceptibility Patterns.
   The study concludes that  IL17A can be used as a marker in diagnosis of DM in addition to other inflammatory and biochemical markers.
The thesis recommends having more studies in future that aim at:
  • focusing on the mechanisms responsible for the regulation of Th17 function and their product (IL17A).
  • isolating and diagnosing the Anaerobic Bacteria from the foot Ulcer and detecting the nature of its sensitivity against the antibiotics.
  • knowing the mechanism of resistance by the bacteria against antibiotics.

(The Effect of Hypothyroidism on the Fertility of Women in the Province of Kerbalaa')

Attending in the Great Hall of Imam Al-Sadiq (PBUH), an MSc. thesis debate was held in the specialty of Medical Laboratories there. The thesis, written by the researcher (Israa’ M. Naji), titled as (The Effect of Hypothyroidism on the Fertility of  Women in the Province of Kerbalaa’). The committee of debate was headed by Prof. Wifaq J. Muhammad PhD- Uni. of Kerbalaa’, having its members: Prof. Naseer J. Al-Mukhtar PhD Uni. of Babil and  Asst. Prof Suraa S. ‘Eesa PhD. The Green Uni. Of Al-Qassim . The thesis was supervised by Asst. Prof Ghusoon G. Ga’aim PhD -Uni. of Kerbelaa’. in addition to Doctor Liqaa’ H. Hassan, a specialist in the Teaching Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Kerbalaa’ .

The study aims at specifying the impact of Hypothyroidism upon fertility of women which implies the probability of the occurrence of a clinical pregnancy. To be mentioned, a very low rate of women at the age of pregnancy suffer from  Hypothyroidism (about 2-4%).  The effect of such disease can be noticed through the imbalance of the sex  hormones or the cycle of the lack of ovulation or the emergence of Prolactinemia in the blood which decreases the fertility. The women’s age included is (18-45) years old. 

The study concludes that Hypothyroidism has a great and very vivid impact on the fertility of women in such age. The result of this study was obtained via the measurement of physiological parameters in blood for the gland of Thyroid functions which were very high in ill women, compared with the healthy ones. The Low physiological parameters of the blood were very salient in sick women more than in the healthy ones. To add more, Hypothyroidism has a negative impact on Iraqi women’s fertility indicators due to the hyper Prolactinemia  and its effects on sex hormones menstrual irregularities and  miscarriage.

The study recommends that women are advised to examine the functions of the Gland of Thyroid, especially women who suffer from frequent miscarriage. Also, women are advised to examine the level of lipids in blood beside the functions of Thyroid and the Hypothyroidism related to it; depending on developed methods of examination;  (PCR); to determine the dysfunction of Thyroid Gland. Once the healing occurs, it is recommended that the patients’ weight is to be kept within its normal ratio. The thesis estimated as to have an excellent degree.

Under the Title of (The Detection of Antimicrobial Peptides in Pediatric Urinary Tract Infection in the Province of Kerbelaa')

Attending in the Great Hall of Imam Al-Sadiq (PBUH), an MSc. thesis debate was held in the specialty of Medical Laboratories there. The thesis, written by the researcher (Temeny M. Hameed), titled as (The Detection of Antimicrobial Peptides in Pediatric Urinary Tract Infection in the Province of Kerbelaa’). The committee of debate was headed by Prof. ‘Ewatif N. Eessa PhD- Uni. of Bassrah, having its members: Prof. Wefaa’ S. Muhsin PhD Uni. of Kerbelaa’ and  Asst. Prof Alaa’ A. Kareem PhD. Uni. of Kerbelaa’. The thesis was supervised by Asst. Prof Hassan A. Hussain PhD -Uni. of Kerbelaa’. in addition to Doctor Qahtan M. Hadi i, a specialist in the Teaching Hospital for Children in Kerbalaa’ .

The study aims at knowing the types of bacteria which cause the Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) in children in addition to the types of the antimicrobial Peptides found in children’s upper and lower UT.

The study concludes that the rate of the  Counts of WBC and CRP in patients with  critical Pyelonephritis is more than in those with  Cystitis. Furthermore, the urine level of HNP and LL- 37 is recorded to be more in such patients compared with healthy people; stating that a positive relation between WBC and CRP in the blood of the patients with Pyelonephritis is recorded  but not between HNP and LL-37.

The study recommends that the gene expression of Cathelicidin  and Human Neutrophil Peptide 1-3 are  to be specified. It is very important that some other studies are required in this respect when tackling such cases in children’s Silent Urinary Tract Infections and adults’ Urinary Tract Infections as well.

Zebuun), titled as (The Evaluation of the Efficiency of the Immunochromagraphic Strip Test in Comparison with other Methods Used in the Diagnosis of some Diarrhea Causes in Pre-School Patients in the Governorate of Babil). The committee of debate was headed by Prof. Wefaa’ S. Shani PhD Uni. of Kerbelaa’, having its members: Prof. Hiyaam K. Al-Mas’uudi PhD Uni. of Babil and  Asst. Prof. ‘Adil ‘A. Abid Ali PhD. Uni. of Kerbelaa’. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Hadi R. Hassan PhD -Uni. of Kerbelaa’. in addition to Asst. Prof. Haydar A. Muhammad PhD. Uni. of Kerbelaa’. .
The study aims at
  • Evaluating the efficiency of Immunochromagraphic Strip Test using the Polymerase Chain Reaction(PCR) so as to diagnose the Parasitic and viral reasons behind Acute Diarrhea, then, comparing it with the commonly used ones in present time.
  • Isolating and diagnosing some types of bacteria which cause the acute bacterial Diarrhea and
  • Evaluating them by using the PCR, and
  • Evaluating the sensitivity and the specificity of the methods used in such diagnosis.
The study demonstrates that the causes behind the acute Watery Diarrhea at the age of less than two years are primarily viral ones, then the bacterial ones come secondarily. On the other hand, the type of Diarrhea occurs due to the parasitic infection could be at the age between four and six years old mostly.  The results manifested that the sensitivity and specificity of the Immunochromagraphic Strip Test which causes diarrhea is statistically very  significant  ones  when being compared to  the test of the PCR. Besides, the  positivity of the test is probable for more than one parasite by the double and triple infections at the same time.
The study ends with some recommendations concerning:
  • the possibility of using the Immunochromagraphic Strip Test so as to diagnose the reasons behind acute diarrhea as a practical application in the laboratories of hospitals and private ones. It could be a substitution for the commonly used ones since it is an easy test which does not require a specialist in recognizing and diagnosing the parasites, having positive results of a highly sensitivity and specificity.
  • The possibility of using the Immunochromagraphic Strip Test to uncover and diagnose the causes once more in urine, saliva, Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) in addition to blood.
  • The use of this test to diagnose the parasites in the frozen samples of feces, considering it as a good criteria which enables the researchers to gather the samples primarily and then,  do the test ; saving the researchers’ time and effort.

Under the supervision of dean of the college of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), Asst. Prof. Jawdat N. Al-Jash’amy PhD, and the pursuance of the dean’s assistant for demonstrative issues, Asst. Prof. Adnan M. Al-Sa’eedy PhD, the Section of Maintenance in the college has implemented some maintenance work for the facilities of the department of Medical Laboratories in this college. The maintenance has covered a building that recently has been added to the facilities of this college. It has included the works of: renewing the old flooring, adding the PVC, painting the classrooms and renewing and checking their ventilation sets…etc. The building has become ready, welcoming the commence of the new academic year 2021-2022 and the students of this department. It contains the administration of this department, the rooms of the teaching staff, classrooms and laboratories for theoretical and experimental lectures respectively specialized for the Undergraduate study and the postgraduate one.

Al-Jash’amy PhD, the administration of the department of the medical Laboratories has commenced moving completely to its new location in the building of its medical laboratories after finishing some reparations by the Section of Maintenance in the college. The rest rooms of this building have been added recently to the facilities of the AMS. This denotes the keen effort of the AMS towards developing its academic facilities and makes it be ready to welcome its students to commence a new fruitful academic year

Attending in the Great Hall of Imam Al-Sadiq (PBUH), the first ever master degree debate in the specialty of Medical Laboratories was held there. The thesis, written by the researcher (Zainab N. Aarif), entitled as (The Study of Bacterial Infections and their Effects on some Parameters Associated with Heart Failure Patients in Karbala). The debate was headed by Prof. In’aam M. Najim PhD- Uni. Of Bassrah-College of Sciences, having its members: Prof. Mithal K. Yihyah PhD Uni. Of Al-Qadissiyah- College of Education and Asst Prof. Jassim. A. Abdullah Phd Uni. Of Kerballa’- College of Applied Medical Sciences. The thesis was supervised by Asst. Prof Alaa’ A. Kareem PhD in addition to Doctor Ahmad Q. Al-Haydari, a specialist in the Center of Cardiology which belongs to the Health Office of Kerbalaa’ .

One of the most important conclusions of the above mentioned thesis is that the Staphylococcus Homini forms the most common bacteria behind the patients with the heart failure. Besides, the results have demonstrated Bacteria to have its impact upon decreasing the level of Troponin, the rate of the MCHC and the level of the Triglycerides of the patients. That may lead to a critical case where the rate of the failure could be immeasurable. Furthermore, the cases have manifested important relations between the biochemical and physiological meters, in which the relations affected by the bacterial infections amongst PLT, RBC, HGB and HCT have been the most salient ones, in addition to the positive relations among the WBC, NEUT and LYM.

The study manifests that 90% of the bacterial isolations taken from patients with a heart failure are resistant for the biological antibiotic ( Meropenem) used in healing the bacterial inflammation of the previously mentioned patients. All that has led finally to manufacturing a mongrel Nano antibiotic from a one used and resisted by the bacteria. That may be done by using the Oxide of Zink and the Nano technology to pass the hurdle of the antibiotic resistance. It is worthy to mention that the thesis was accepted and approved with the estimation of excellent
