About the faculty

The college was established in 2011 as part of the University of Karbala, including two departments: the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology and the Department of Environmental Health. Graduates earn a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Medical Sciences / Medical Laboratory Technology or Environmental Health after completing a four-year study program, during which students finish the required courses for each department according to the prescribed curriculum. The Medical Laboratory Technology department prepares students to work in medical laboratories, specializing in biological and biochemical analysis to diagnose diseases affecting humans. Students are trained to use the latest scientific techniques to obtain reliable results for diagnosing and treating clinical diseases. On the other hand, graduates of the Environmental Health department are trained to handle environmental issues and their health impacts on living organisms, particularly humans. The department focuses on diagnosing, interpreting, and addressing these issues to achieve a healthy and clean environment suitable for habitation. It also emphasizes modern methods to prevent pollution and keep the Earth safe from harm caused by humans. The college is continuously working on equipping scientific laboratories for various specializations. One of our main goals at this stage is to provide laboratories with necessary equipment, devices, and materials. Additionally, we are also working to set up a unit for treating laboratory wastewater to control biological and chemical pollution that could harm human health and the environment. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Legal and Administrative Department has approved granting graduates of our college the job title of “Researcher” (M. Researcher) until the issue of new job titles is resolved through coordination with the Ministries of Planning and Finance.
