College of Science, University of Baghdad discussed a Ph.D. thesis on seasonal changes of greenhouse gases in the atmospheric layers on climate change by the postgraduate student, Ms. Maoj Saeed Rashid.
The thesis aimed at investigating the effect of greenhouse gases on the temperature of three layers of the atmosphere (troposphere, stratosphere, and mesosphere), as well as studying their impact on climate in the presence of other influencing factors such as solar radiation (SR) and total column ozone (TCO).
The thesis highlighted that the lower part of the atmosphere near the Earth’s surface at an altitude of (m2) in the troposphere revealed that the increase in greenhouse gases is accompanied by an increase in temperatures despite the decrease in solar radiation, which confirms that greenhouse gases have a significant impact on temperatures in the second layer is at an altitude of (20 km).
The thesis reviewed that both the increase in greenhouse gases and the decrease in (solar radiation and total column ozone), and that the increase in greenhouse gases and the decrease in solar radiation causes cooling, as in the stratosphere, as well as that the large increase in the proportions of GHGs has negative effects on the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere.
