Mustansiriyah University’s Ph.D. Thesis: On Improving Images of Retina Affected by Various Diseases Using Computed Tomography

College of Science, Mustansiriyah University discussed a Ph.D. thesis on improving retinal images with optical coherence tomography according to image processing techniques by postgraduate student, Ms. Nida Munther Salman.

The thesis aimed at improving the contrast and illumination in images of the retina affected by various diseases, removing noise, helping ophthalmologists and optometrists detect the disease early and increasing the chances of successful treatment.

The thesis highlighted the preparation of five new methods to improve retinal images and identify the blood vessels present in the retina to detect diseases early and reduce the incidence of blindness and to make a comparison with the current methods used currently.

The thesis demonstrated the success of the proposed method and the ability of the algorithms used to improve retinal images with high accuracy, while proving the possibility of identifying affected blood vessels in a new technical way.
