Al-Musayyab Technical College, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University discussed a master dissertation on the effect of using Nano-metakaolin on the properties of the hot mix asphalt product in Al-Hillah asphalt factories by the postgraduate student, Ms. Nabaa Sabah Radhi.
The dissertation aimed at improving the properties of asphalt and hot mix asphalt using nano-metakaolin and refining asphalt and hot mix asphalt with a mixture of Nano-materials (Nano-metakaolin, Nano-silica, Nano-clay).
The dissertation concluded that the use of nano-metakaolin additive gave results of improvement in Marshall stability only and did not give a noticeable improvement to the rest of the asphalt mixture tests due to the use of a small percentage of asphalt, which was (3.7%) of the weight of the asphalt mixture according to the laboratory mixing equation.
The dissertation recommended using an asphalt percentage higher than (4%) in the asphalt mixture, as it was proven that the concentration of (3.7%) of asphalt is a very small concentration and its effectiveness for the performance of the asphalt mixture has not been proven.
