Anbar University’s Ph.D. Thesis: On Removal of Heavy Metals & Bacterial Contamination from Water

College of Science, University of Anbar discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the removal of several heavy metals and bacterial contamination from water by algal Nanocellulose membranes by the postgraduate student, Mr. Yasser Mohsen Youssef.

The thesis aimed at preparing Nanocrystalline cellulose (CNC) from Kara algae spread in the river via using three methods: ball milling, hydrolysis of sulfuric acid and ultrasound.

The thesis highlighted that the ability of the filtration membrane to absorb microbes and heavy metal ions can be enhanced by modifying the membrane with Nanocellulose, especially regarding separation and adsorption performance.
