Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University’s Master’s Dissertation: On Effect of Growth Regulators NaCl, PEG & Putrescine in Inducing Callus of Wonka Plant & Its Content of Medically Active Compounds

Musayyab Technical College, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University discussed a master dissertation on the effect of growth regulators NaCl, PEG and Putrescine in inducing the callus of the Wonka plant and its content of medically active compounds by the postgraduate student, Ms. Safa Hussein Abbas Fadhel.

The dissertation aimed at studying the effect of 2,4-D and BA in inducing the callus of the Wonka plant and the effect of NaCl, PEG, Putrescine in increasing the content of the callus of the Wonka plant of the alkaloids vincristine and vinblastine.

The dissertation confirmed that sterilization with sodium hypochlorite at a concentration of (3%) for 20 minutes was effective in sterilizing the surface of the plant parts and that adding the combination of (1 mg L-1 2,4-D × 0.5 mg L-1 BA) to the induction medium (MS) gave the highest rate of fresh and dry weights of the induced callus.

The dissertation recommended conducting an experiment using other plant parts of the vinca plant to induce callus and studying the effect of abiotic factors on other plant parts of the vinca plant and their effect on the active compounds in it, and conducting other studies on other types of secondary compounds of this plant and their medical and therapeutic importance.
