College of Engineering, University of Diyala discussed a master dissertation on the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams reinforced by near-surface fixed bars with geopolymer adhesive by the postgraduate student, Mr. Mohammed Ali Abdullah.
The dissertation aimed at studying the practical and theoretical aspects of the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams reinforced by near-surface fixed bars with geopolymer adhesive as an alternative to epoxy, which is cheaper, environmentally friendly, safe and sustainable compared to epoxy.
The dissertation highlighted that the maximum load-bearing capacity of concrete beams reinforced by near-surface fixed bars with geopolymer and epoxy adhesive increased by up to (118 and 117%) respectively when compared to the unreinforced model, thus geopolymer can be used as an alternative to epoxy adhesive in strengthening the shear of concrete beams by near-surface steel bars.
