College of Education for Human Sciences / University of Kerbala, has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled “A Pragma Stylistic Analysis of Flaming Language in Selected Political Speeches.”
Being submitted by Baqir Muhammad Ali Mahdi Shalal, the study aims at conducting a pragmatic stylistic analysis of inflammatory political speeches of US President Donald Trump, one of the most prominent politicians on global stage in employing inflammatory language. The study deals with linguistic and rhetorical strategies used in these speeches, underlying ideologies they convey. It also discusses how they are employed to influence audiences, particularly during 2024 US election.
The stylistic analysis of Trump’s speeches revealed his extensive use of figurative language, speech acts, and arousal strategies, enhancing his presence before public, asserting his authority, and eliciting reactions. The thesis finds out that there is a heavy reliance on exaggeration and sarcasm, along with metaphors and similes, within a communication framework based on boldness, clarity, and excitement.
