Wasit University’s Master’s Dissertation: On Enhancing Performance of Counter-Flow Heat Exchangers

College of Engineering, University of Wasit discussed a master dissertation on enhancing the thermal performance of counter-flow heat exchangers with a diverse inner tube design by the postgraduate student, Mr. Safaa Abdul Adheem Saleh.

The dissertation reviewed reducing electrical energy consumption by recovering the waste heat associated with exhaust gases emitted from brick production kilns and using it to heat heavy fuel oil.

The dissertation demonstrated that adding spiral fins with a height of 20 mm on the outer surface of the inner tube of the heat exchanger led to an increase in the outlet oil temperature, the Nusselt number and the effectiveness by 9%, 33% and 16%, respectively, when comparing the practical and theoretical results, they showed a very good match.
